Engineers from GBG Civil Engineering have been investigating the bones of our building: checking aspects of the structure to make sure there are no surprises once building work commences, securing the grates in the dome to make sure we can safely hold activities and uncovering some of the secrets of its construction.
One of our more exciting recent finds is a long-forgotten stairway to our dome. We are very proud to be able to provide access to a heritage building, so that specialists can gain further experience working with an older building and trainees can take their first steps in working with heritage.
As part of this, a cohort of surveying students from Sheffield Hallam University visited us last week to develop their learning with hands on experience.
Thanks also to Arup, Evans Vettori Architects and Turner & Townsend for steering the process.
